IF YOU ARE NEW TO THE UKULELE
ukeStroud does not provide a formal teaching environment but it is a place where people of all abilities can come and have fun playing together.

IF YOU WANT TO FIND OUT MORE ABOUT THE UKULELE BEFORE YOU BUY
It’s an ideal place to come and see the various types of ukuleles in action. Not everyone plays the little soprano and most people move on to a better quality instrument once they have got started.

BEWARE OF VERY CHEAP UKULELES
Some of the very cheap ukuleles on sale on the internet and in charity shops are UNPLAYABLE. The problem is that although the instrument can be tuned up to an electronic tuner, as soon as you start to play a chord it does not sound tuneful. This is because of poor INTONATION. Another problem is that the pegs often slip. This can be rectified by tightening the screw at the back.

IF YOU ARE LEFT-HANDED
It’s quite easy to switch around the strings and find left-handed chord sheets. Many left-handed people still play right-handed. Hug a ukulele both ways to see which feels best. IF YOU NEED HELP If you need help to get started with the basic chords, it’s probably a good idea to book some one-to-one lessons to gain confidence.
